Outline Itinerary

Day 01: Arrival in Kathmandu (1,300m/4,264ft)

Day 02: Kathmandu: sightseeing and trek preparation

Day 03: Fly to Pokhara and trek to Ulleri (2050 m/6725 ft): 30 min flight and 6 hours trek

Day 04: Ulleri to Ghorepani (2,750 m/ 9,020 ft): 4 - 5 hours trek

Day 05: Ghorepani to Tadapani (2,700m/8,860ft) with a visit to Poon Hill (3,210m/10,529ft): 6 - 7 hours

Day 06: Tadapani to Chhomrong (2170m/7120ft): 6 hours trek

Day 07: Chhomrong to Bamboo (2310m/7578ft): 4 - 5 hours

Day 08: Bamboo to Deurali (3230m/10,595ft): 3 - 4 hours

Day 09: Deurali to Annapurna Base Camp (4,130m/13,545ft) via Machhapuchhre Base Camp (3700m/12135ft): 5- 6 hours

Day 10:  Annapurna Base Camp to Bamboo: 7 - 8 hours

Day 11: Bamboo to Jhinu Danda (1760m/5770 ft): 5 - 6 hours

Day 12: Trek to Naya Pul then drive to Pokhara: 6 hours trek, 1 hour drive

Day 13: Fly from Pokhara to Kathmandu

Day 14: Final departure

Cost Includes:

  • Airport pickups and drops in a private vehicle

Day 01: Arrival in Kathmandu (1,300m/4,264ft)

A Himalayan Traverse representative will be waiting for us at the airport. He/she will then drop us off at our hotel where we can take a rest. In the evening we can enjoy a welcome dinner hosted by Himalayan Traverse. During the dinner we can enjoy Nepalese cuisine which will introduce us to the country’s food culture.

Day 02: Kathmandu: sightseeing and trek preparation

Today, we explore UNESCO World Heritage Sites that showcase Nepal’s rich cultural and religious heritage. Our first stop is Kathmandu Durbar Square, a stunning example of the city’s architectural brilliance during the Malla dynasty (c. 1201–1769). We then visit Swayambhunath Stupa, popularly known as the “Monkey Temple” due to the many monkeys in the area. Next, we explore Pashupatinath Temple, one of the most sacred Hindu pilgrimage sites in the world, followed by Boudhanath, a massive Buddhist stupa and one of the largest of its kind globally. In the late afternoon, we stop by Himalayan Traverse’s office for a brief trek orientation.

Day 03: Fly to Pokhara and trek to Ulleri (2050 m/6725 ft): 30 min flight and 6 hours trek

We take an early morning flight to Pokhara. Upon arrival, we are greeted by the stunning Himalayan panorama, including Dhaulagiri, Manaslu, Machhapuchhre, and the five peaks of Annapurna. From Pokhara, we drive to Naya Pul, where our trek begins. The trail winds through lush valley forests and crosses the Bhurungdi Khola (river) before reaching Tikhedhunga Village. Next, we ascend Ulleri Hill, a challenging climb with thousands of stone steps and boulders that will test our stamina. We arrive at Ulleri by late afternoon for an overnight stay.

Day 04: Ulleri to Ghorepani (2,750 m/ 9,020 ft): 4 - 5 hours trek

After breakfast, we begin our ascent to Ghorepani village via stone steps. Along the way, we are treated to breathtaking views of Annapurna South, which appears and disappears as we climb. The trail passes waterfalls, small villages, and several charming tea-houses before reaching Ghorepani. We pause at the upper part of the village, which offers panoramic vistas of the surrounding mountains, including Annapurna South and Nilgiri. Ghorepani also features small shops selling local handicrafts and souvenirs, and visitors can access Wi-Fi in the village.

Day 05: Ghorepani to Tadapani (2,700m/8,860ft) with a visit to Poon Hill (3,210m/10,529ft): 6 - 7 hours

We rise early to climb Poon Hill, arriving just in time to witness a breathtaking sunrise over the Himalayas. Poon Hill is renowned for offering close-up views of the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri ranges, along with sweeping vistas of Mustang, Pokhara, and over 20 of the highest peaks in the region. After enjoying the sunrise and a warm cup of coffee, we descend back to Ghorepani for breakfast. Continuing our trek, we head east and climb a nearby ridge. The trail then descends through lush rhododendron forests and past waterfalls, leading us to our overnight stop in Tadapani.

Day 06: Tadapani to Chhomrong (2170m/7120ft): 6 hours trek

The trek begins with a descent through a dense rhododendron forest, which gradually opens up to reveal picturesque terraced fields. We continue walking uphill for approximately 5 km, passing waterfalls along the way before reaching a suspension bridge—a common sight in Nepal’s hilly and mountainous regions. After a few more miles of uphill and downhill trekking, we arrive at our destination for the day, Chhomrong, a charming village nestled at the base of the majestic Annapurna massif.

Day 07: Chhomrong to Bamboo (2310m/7578ft): 4 - 5 hours

We depart from Chhomrong and descend a series of stone steps until we reach the Chhomrong Khola. Crossing a suspension bridge over the river, we start an uphill climb toward Sinuwa. The trail takes us through a lush forest to Kuldihar, followed by a gentle descent to Bamboo, where we stay overnight.

Day 08: Bamboo to Deurali (3230m/10,595ft): 3 - 4 hours

We trek through a damp, cool bamboo forest before beginning an uphill trail, which at times can be quite steep. Upon reaching the Himalaya Hotel, the forest opens up, and we are greeted by sunlight along with breathtaking views of the glacial river below. The trail then climbs steeply through a drier forest to reach Hinku Cave. From there, we descend to a river and continue ascending toward Deurali. Along the way, we are treated to spectacular views of the surrounding hills and Mt. Dhaulagiri. The thinning vegetation offers magical panoramas of the valley, the river, and waterfalls cascading down cliffs.

Day 09: Deurali to Annapurna Base Camp (4,130m/13,545ft) via Machhapuchhre Base Camp (3700m/12135ft): 5- 6 hours

We continue along the valley trail, steadily climbing as the path clings to rocky cliffs and becomes steep at times. After a relatively flat stretch, we ascend toward Machhapuchhre Base Camp, where we are rewarded with breathtaking views of Mt. Hiunchuli, Annapurna South, Annapurna I, Annapurna III, Gandharvachuli, and Gangapurna. Turning left, we begin a gentle climb to Annapurna Base Camp, enjoying the spectacular Himalayan panorama along the way. Upon reaching the base camp, we are surrounded by majestic peaks, accessible only through the gorge we traversed.

Day 10:  Annapurna Base Camp to Bamboo: 7 - 8 hours

From Annapurna Base Camp, our trail descends steadily, passing landmarks such as Machhapuchhre Base Camp, Deurali, Himalayan Hotel, and Doban, before reaching Bamboo, where we stay overnight. Since today’s trek is mostly downhill, it is relatively easier compared to the previous days.

Day 11: Bamboo to Jhinu Danda (1760m/5770 ft): 5 - 6 hours

We retrace our steps back to Chhomrong, stopping there for lunch. From Chhomrong, the trail descends steeply down to the Modi Khola valley, with the stone steps as challenging as before. Continuing onward, we reach Jhinu Danda, where we will spend the night. Along the way, we pass through lush rainforests and cultivated farmlands, enjoying the natural beauty around us. Upon arriving at Jhinu Danda, the afternoon is free to rest and relax.

Day 12: Trek to Naya Pul then drive to Pokhara: 6 hours trek, 1 hour drive

We depart Jhinu Danda, taking in the stunning hill landscapes of western Nepal as we make our way to Naya Pul, stopping for lunch along the route. Today marks the completion of our trek to the Annapurna Sanctuary and back. From Naya Pul, we board a vehicle to return to Pokhara for an overnight stay.

If the road connecting Jhinu Danda to Naya Pul is completed, it may also be possible to drive directly from Jhinu Danda to Pokhara.

Day 13: Fly from Pokhara to Kathmandu

We fly to Kathmandu in the morning. After landing at the airport, we will be dropped off at our hotel in the city. We can spend the day taking the much needed rest or catch up on some last minute shopping.  Either way, we mark the end of our successful trip with a farewell dinner hosted by Himalayan Traversewhere we can share our experiences of the trek before flying back home the next day. Overnight in Kathmandu.

Day 14: Final departure

Our trip to Nepal ends today. We will be dropped off at the airport by a company representative 3 hours before the scheduled flight.
