The trail continues toward the entrance of Sagarmatha National Park, leading us to Namche Bazaar—the gateway to Mt. Everest and the main trading hub of the Khumbu region. Day 05: Namche Bazaar (3,440 m/11,283 ft): Acclimatization Day

Today is reserved for acclimatization. Health experts advise staying active even on rest days, as light movement helps the body adjust to the altitude. There are several ways to spend the day — we can take a leisurely walk around the charming Namche villages, interact with the Sherpa community to learn about their rich traditions, or hike up to the Everest View Hotel for breathtaking close-up views of Mt. Everest.

While in Namche or after returning from the Everest View Hotel hike, visitors can explore the local museum, which features exhibits on the region’s flora, fauna, and the history of Mount Everest.

For those who prefer a longer hike, an excursion to Khumjung village (around 5–6 hours) is another great option. There, we can visit the Edmund Hillary School and the famous Khumjung Monastery, known for displaying what is believed to be the head of the Yeti. Overnight stay in Namche Bazaar.

The trek is challenging due to the thin air at high altitude, as we navigate rocky dunes, moraines, and streams. Upon reaching Everest Base Camp, the colorful tents of climbers stand out vividly against the gray landscape, particularly during the spring season. From the base camp, we can admire spectacular views of Nuptse, Khumbutse, and Pumori. After spending time at the camp, we return to Gorak Shep for an overnight stay and well-deserved rest.
